gebs This felt like a new Athenaeum album, a throwback and nostalgic time-trip to my late high-school years. Emotive, soulful, and full of earworms, this is for pop-rock lovers. Favorite track: Walking On Broadway.

exsurgo Great collection of songs. Picked it up again, 11 years later on Bandcamp here.
I don't pay for streaming-music services; I want to directly support the artists and buy the music. Favorite track: Calling Saturn.

kimmoj The title track may be the most obvious thing to love on this album, but the love declaration that wraps up the album is the one that stuck with me the first time I heard it. I didn't buy the album then, but it kept nagging me and so here I am, writing a review. No idea what Mark Kano is up to these days but this is an awesome album, and I'm glad I finally got around to buying it. Favorite track: Baby I'm Your Man.

There must be something on the radio waves That keeps me coming here for all of my days When some voice across the ocean comes and changes my ways It was destiny Maybe it's something like a coming of age You loose yourself and leave your soul on a page Like a lonely apparition dropping crumbs in a maze You are make believe Time passes by when you're up on a stage In the blink of an eye you'll be locked in a cage You can loose it all Walking On Walking On Broadway I lost it all Walking On Broadway And it ain't nothing but a sign of the times You gain the world it only costs you your mind There's a pill for every moment boy you're doing just fine Just you wait and see Maybe they've got you like a dog on a leash Scratching and kicking clawing showing your teeth But if only for a moment you could set yourself free You could make the scene Time changes shape when you're out here in space And if you ever come down everything is erased You can loose it all Walking On Walking On Broadway I lost it all Walking On Broadway I ain't looking for a new fascination I'm just craving me some peer validation And if we get there take a long vacation now Or we could loose it all Walking On Broadway I lost it All Walking On Broadway

Calling Saturn Changing patterns Heartbeats scatter A world is shattered Moonlight showers Form this tower Starlight falling Saturn calling Stormy was my destiny 'Till I found a Rasta girl She came along and rescued me And took me to a Rasta world Where everything was gold and green And Reggae was the only sound I'm changing my philosophy Diggin' that high singing don't worry About a thing Singing don't worry baby About a thing Calling Saturn Changing patterns Heartbeats scatter A world is shattered Stormy was my destiny 'Till I found a Rasta girl She came along and rescued me And took me to her world singing don't worry About a thing Singing don't worry baby About a thing The sky is filled with smoke tonight The ocean moon is black and white And the captain here is drunk tonight Hey baby don't worry about it I said hey baby don't worry about it Calling Saturn

You're warm, you're wise, you're sacred in my eyes You're bold, you're brave, you're patient as the day And I'm just sitting on a rock right here Watching all the stars appear And I've been waiting for a chance my dear I'm still waiting Yeah I'm still waiting You're cool, you're kind, you're perfect in my mind You walk with grace, you're an angel in this place And I'm just sitting on a rock right here Watching all the stars appear And I've been waiting for a chance my dear I'm still waiting Yeah I'm still waiting I'm still waiting Yeah I'm still waiting I'm still waiting For a chance to find My own mind Do do do do oh yeah Do do do do oh yeah Do do do do oh yeah I'm still waiting I'm still waiting Yeah I'm still waiting Yeah I'm still waiting

There's something in the air tonight
But nothing on earth could make me stop this fight
There's nothing that I could say to change your mind
There's nothing like a broken heart To open you up and drop you at the start
There's nothing that I could say to change your mind

And there's nothing that I'd rather do Nowhere than I'd rather be
Than watching the sun go down
And having you here with me And there's nothing that I'd rather say Than whatever you want me to
You'll know that it's from the heart
Cause nothing could sound so true As telling you I love you
As telling you I love you

There's nothing like an open door
To a million miles of road you can't explore
There's nothing like a shiny new to tempt your mind
So when you're out there on your rocky road
And you've been through it so many times your mind explodes
And there's nothing that you can do to turn back time And there's nothing that I'd rather do Nowhere that I'd rather be
Than watching the sun go down
And having you here with me And there's nothing that I'd rather say
Than whatever you want me to
You'll know that it's from the heart
Cause nothing could sound so true As telling you I love you As telling you I love you As telling you I love you As telling you I love you
I love you I love you

Sad Songs 03:45
I found it hard to believe it's true But ooh my baby left me for something new Girl you had me locked underneath your spell Now I'm another one gone in your wishing well It's just a sad song saying goodbye Sad enough to make you cry But even sad songs say it's alright We don't want a broken heart tonight What an unfortunate circumstance Ooh should I give your love another chance Girl you had me tricked with your sweet romance Am I a fool for believing in your song and dance? It's just a sad song saying goodbye Sad enough to make you cry But even sad songs say it's alright We don't want a broken heart tonight It's alright When you're under the gun It's alright And there's nowhere to run It's alright When you're under the gun It's alright I found it hard to believe it's true But ooh my baby left me for something new And girl you had me locked underneath your spell Now I'm another one gone in your wishing well It's just a sad song saying goodbye Sad enough to make you cry But even sad songs say it's alright We don't want a broken heart tonight It's alright Yeah it's alright Yeah it's alright Even sad songs say it's alright

Peridots for a pair of eyes She's got me paralyzed here in paradise It kind of makes me wonder What kind of spell have I been under I hurt you bad But I want you back Where were you last night? Where were you last night? It kind of makes me crazy Just thinking about you baby Please come back Please come back Desert eyes, island smile A country heart, New York City style It kind of makes me wonder What kind of rock did I crawl from under Good times, nightmares God knows we've had our share Where were you last night? Where were you last night? It kind of makes me crazy Just thinking about you baby Please come back Please come back Frozen heart, tired ways With open arms through my darkest days You really had me going The way you moved me without even knowing Good times, some bad You're still the best I've had Where were you last night? Where were you last night? It kind of makes me crazy Just thinking about you baby

Oh please Mr. Dog Catcher Won't you have a heart today? If you see my little doggie Would you send him on his way? He's been gone for quite a few hours And I don't know where he is But I found a polka dot collar And I know it's probably his And I miss the way he barks at me And the way he wags his tail Oh I would do anything Just to keep him from the doggie jail So please Mr. Dog Catcher If you have a heart today And you see my little doggie on your way Would you send him home to me?

I've got my heart set on you I get this feeling no one else in the world will do And I won't let go when the wind starts blowing This ain't no castle made of sand that we've been living in and I know it So if there's anything you can be sure of at all... Some folks have it all, but you and me chose the fall And I've been falling ever since I proudly stole your hand Cause baby I'm your man Baby I'm your man You've got your heart set on me You've packed your whole world with everything that life can be And you've got my shoulder if winds grow colder Your love's a river so deep so wide I could never get over So if there's anything you can be sure of at all... Some folks build a wall, but you and me chose the fall And I've been falling ever since I proudly stole your hand Cause baby I'm your man Baby I'm your man Baby I'm your man Baby I'm your man And I'd do it all again Baby I'm your man

about

"Walking On Broadway," the long awaited debut solo record from Mark Kano, is now available. This is the first collection of new songs written by Kano since Athenaeum's 2001 self-titled effort on Atlantic Records. The self-produced eight song disc was mixed by Gavin MacKillop (Toad The Wet Sprocket, Goo Goo Dolls, Athenaeum) and recorded at various studios throughout 2008 with the help of fellow musicians Nic Brown, Snuzz, Mike Garrigan and Sam Frazier. "Walking On Broadway" picks up where we last left Athenaeum, a band that helped create a brand of authentic pop rock that continues to live somewhere just outside the radar of mainstream music. Instantly accessible yet sophisticated and memorable, "Walking On Broadway" promises to please fans of the alternative rock genre.
